"In his domestic administration my father had this system . . . to keep a journal and insert in it all occurrences of any note . . . A record very pleasant to look at when time begins to efface the memory of events, and very well suited to get us out of perplexity: When was such and such a thing begun? When completed? What retinues came? How long did they stay? Our trips, our absences; marriages; deaths; the receipt of happy or unhappy news . . . An ancient custom, which I think it would be good to revive, each man in each man's home. And I think I am a fool to have neglected it." (Montaigne, Book I, Essay 35 (publ. 1580))

Visitors . . .

This was quite fun - Kerry and Luis visited 8/14-8/22, and Nicole and POC visited 8/18-8/22. Lots of nice conversation, meals, etc. And some progress on wedding planning for March 2011 in Arizona - including a "VIP Tasting" at Fuego Bistro (caterer) that made for quite a delightful evening. And had a chance to play a bit of basketball in late afternoon/relatively high temperature conditions.

Patricia and I took a road trip with Kerry and Luis during the visit - Grand Canyon, Sedona, Jerome - so we actually made quite an extensive tour of northern AZ. Even hiked down to the 1 1/2 mile house on the Bright Angel Trail - which I always enjoy muchly. Some shopping at the old high school in Jerome (per photo). We also have a few cellphone photos from the hike (but otherwise didn't do much with photos, oh well).
