"In his domestic administration my father had this system . . . to keep a journal and insert in it all occurrences of any note . . . A record very pleasant to look at when time begins to efface the memory of events, and very well suited to get us out of perplexity: When was such and such a thing begun? When completed? What retinues came? How long did they stay? Our trips, our absences; marriages; deaths; the receipt of happy or unhappy news . . . An ancient custom, which I think it would be good to revive, each man in each man's home. And I think I am a fool to have neglected it." (Montaigne, Book I, Essay 35 (publ. 1580))

Suns Charities "Slam Dunk"

Ah , what rings.
A quick note about a fun little event in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, October 11 (though actually the main reason I'm posting about this is to have an excuse to display the above photo with our fancy rings).

Getting ready to sit down for dinner on Central Ave.
Anyway:  CPG has been involved with the Phoenix Suns charity organization; they have a neat event starting with drinks and appetizers on the Suns basketball court, followed by dinner on Central Ave, followed by dessert and dancing (also on Central Ave but a couple blocks south of the dinner location).  So it's a pretty solid concept.  CPG, PJ, NOC, POC and I had a fine evening.

As the evening wears on.

Purple and orange attire preferred.
